Icing sugar, also known as powdered sugar or confectioners’ sugar, is a very finely ground white sugar with a soft, powdery texture. It often contains a small amount of anti-caking agent to prevent clumping. Due to its fine consistency, it dissolves quickly and smoothly, making it ideal for use in icings, glazes, and whipped creams.
It is a staple ingredient in many types of baking and decorating, particularly where a smooth, glossy or delicate finish is needed.
Uses:
-
Perfect for making buttercream, royal icing, and glace icing
-
Ideal for dusting over cakes, pastries, doughnuts, and desserts
-
Used to sweeten whipped cream, mousses, and frostings
-
Can be used in uncooked fillings or no-bake recipes where granulated sugar would be too coarse
Directions for Use:
Icing sugar is ready to use straight from the pack. For extra smooth icing, it can be sifted before mixing to remove any lumps. When making buttercream or icing, add gradually to butter or liquid, beating well to achieve a smooth consistency.
To dust over baked goods, simply use a fine sieve or shaker for an even, decorative finish.
Store in a cool, dry place in an airtight container to prevent clumping and moisture absorption.
